This program focuses on the uncertainty and very uncomfortable feelings associated with anticipation and anxiety. Similar vibes could be traveling into the unknown; lack of "home"; stranger in a strange land; learning to live in places that are not yours. There are strong ties to pre-Solstice traditions of "longing for light... when the world is still and holds its breath, waiting to be reborn again." The program also does not shy away from the tumultuous reality of the characters in what is accepted within the biblical Advent story; a small family living in occupied land without the guarantee of a home, and the constant need to be on the move because of the threat of danger. It is within these paradoxes of constant shift and stillness that this musical "nomadic journey" embraces. Through spontaneous creation, improvisation, and complete reliance on musical memory, Josh Bradford engages the audience and encourages them to think about ways they can engage with difficult experiences like anxiety, grief, depression, loss of relationships, tough decision making, as well as receive glimpses of joyful, pleasurable, and comforting memories in a safe, welcoming space.
